The Garden Route is made for driving, and half the fun is knowing where to pull over. This west-to-east itinerary maps the best places to eat along the N2, so you never settle for a forgettable petrol-station pie. Adjust the pace to suit — it’s a brilliant three days, or a packed long weekend.

Stop 1 — Mossel Bay (the gateway)

Start with coffee at Bean Blessed in Mossel Bay, then a clifftop lunch at Pinnacle Point. Just east, detour to De Vette Mossel at Great Brak River for a beach seafood feast.

Stop 2 — George & the bays

George is the place for a proper dinner — steak at Steak by Reel and Rustic or pizza at K-risp. Detour to Victoria Bay for ocean views at Hilltop.

Stop 3 — Wilderness & Sedgefield

Slow down. Coffee at The Commonage in Wilderness, oysters at roadside Oysters R Us, then a market morning in Sedgefield — grab a bite at Mojo Café.

Stop 4 — Knysna (the midpoint)

Base yourself in Knysna. Breakfast at East Head Café, oysters by the lagoon (see our oyster guide), and dinner with cocktails at Knysna Gin Distillery.

Stop 5 — Plettenberg Bay

In Plett, do a long lunch at Bramon Wine Estate on The Crags and a sunset dinner at Emily Moon.

Stop 6 — Storms River (the finale)

End in the forest. Visit Fynboshoek Cheese in the Tsitsikamma and hearty meals at Tilly’s. See the full Storms River guide.
