The Garden Route is one of the most dog-friendly corners of South Africa — endless beaches, forest walks and, happily, plenty of restaurants where your dog is welcome at the table (or under it). Here’s where to bring them, with the full dog-friendly list.

Breweries and beer gardens

Beer gardens are a dog’s best friend. Red Bridge Brewing Co in Knysna has a relaxed, dog-welcoming garden with wood-fired pizza, and Elvis Brew Co near George airport offers craft beer and space to roam.

Wine estates and farm stalls

Bramon Wine Estate near Plett welcomes dogs among the vines, and working farms like Misty Valley Farm outside Mossel Bay and Klipheuwel Farmstall in Klein Brak River are made for muddy paws.

Cafés that welcome dogs

In Sedgefield, Flat Lizard & Co and Liquid & Leaf are both happy to see dogs, and the surf café New Wave Village in Victoria Bay is as laid-back as it gets.

A few quick tips

Always keep dogs leashed unless told otherwise, bring water, and check ahead in peak season when patios get busy. Many Garden Route beaches allow dogs off-peak — pair a beach walk with a meal nearby.
