Half the joy of eating on the Garden Route is where you’re sitting. A good view turns a plate of fish into a memory. These are the tables worth booking for the scenery alone — see them all on our sea-view restaurants page.
At the water’s edge
East Head Café is the classic — right at the mouth of the Knysna lagoon where the sea surges between the Heads. On Thesen Island, Nest Food Bar does cocktails over the water. In Victoria Bay, the laid-back New Wave Village Café looks straight onto one of the country’s best surf breaks.
Clifftops and high views
For drama, Pinnacle Point sits on a clifftop above Mossel Bay, and Hilltop Boutique Hotel gazes down over Victoria Bay’s surf. In Hartenbos, beachfront Ilmazzo pairs Italian plates with ocean views.
River and lagoon views
It’s not all open ocean. Emily Moon overlooks the Bitou River wetlands near Plett — one of the loveliest settings on the route — and the Oak Leaf estate near Belvidere offers calm water views away from the crowds.
Beach feasts
For sea views with your toes in the sand, De Vette Mossel at Great Brak River is hard to beat.
